A oversized, bloated Pinocchio is Paul McCarthy's project for "In Between". EXPO visitors can enter the body of the marionette and purchase pinoccio's nose in chocolate. The huge sculpture is an ironic allusion to the pressure to make things "higher-faster-bigger" which has been the motivating force behind every World Exposition to date. In contrast to Disney's colourful original, McCarthy's Pinocchio is painted chocolate brown. With these types of figures, the artist, born in 1945, makes a joke out of the synthetic, idyllic world of Disney. |
